Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program
With an emphasis on teaching, clinical services and research, the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Montefiore Einstein provides training in hospital ambulatory, long-term and community-based care. Our program accepts two fellows per year, and is supported by three full-time faculty members and a close collaboration with the Division of Geriatric Medicine.

Why our program could be right for you
Our specialty training in geriatrics prepares trainees for leadership in the areas of clinical service, teaching, training, scientific study, administration and public policy. Over the course of their training, fellows learn how to influence health policy through clinical investigation, community service and public advocacy. Additionally, the diverse patient population we serve affords fellows the opportunity to provide care to a range of older adults, including those from the LGBTQ community, those suffering various traumas and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Moses Campus
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Moses Campus provides fellows supervised speciality outpatient training and opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration. Over the course of the year, fellows serve as members of the Outpatient Department’s Geriatric Team and gradually assume team leader roles. While training at the Outpatient Department, fellows provide direct patient care, work with allied professionals as medical consultants and liaise with other medical providers to coordinate care, teach, and supervise junior trainees. Fellows become familiar with the management of polypharmacy, multimorbidity and the complexities of family dynamics, socially supportive agencies and psychotherapeutic encounters.
I chose to pursue Geriatric Psychiatry for the opportunity to help older adults maximize their quality of life, while working collaboratively and integrating knowledge of psychiatry, medicine, and neurology.

Family Health Center
Located within the Family Health Center, Montefiore Home Care is the nation's first hospital-based agency to bring rehabilitation and long-term care services to the homes of adult patients. The program is one of the few community-based agencies that provides in-home psychotherapy using Problem Adaptation Therapy at Home for Mild Cognitive Impairment and Depression (PATH-MCI), as well as Problem Solving Therapy and Behavioral Activation for homebound older adults suffering from depression.
