Anesthesiology Fellowship Programs

The Anesthesiology Fellowship Programs at Montefiore Einstein provide trainees comprehensive one-year instruction in anesthesia subspecialties. Through complex clinical care, close collaboration with attending anesthesiologists, bedside and didactic teaching of residents and active clinical research opportunities, our programs prepare fellows to be leaders in perioperative medicine.

Why our program could be right for you

Anesthesiology Fellows can take advantage of the wide spectrum of expertise available at Montefiore Health System and hone their skills as perioperative physicians. At Montefiore Einstein, we treat a diverse patient population with complex pathologies, which provides fellows the educational experiences that prepare them to handle any case.  A monthly Fellows' College conference series offers education and guidance to our fellows on nonclinical topics, complementing their clinical training.

Home to our Centers of Excellence

Montefiore’s Moses Campus is home to the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), the Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation, the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care and the Montefiore Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. At Montefiore's main campus, we also take care of patients undergoing complex neurological surgeries as well as advanced endoscopic procedures. Our Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellows, Pediatric Anesthesia Fellows, Advanced Airway/Otorhinolaryngology Fellows and Neuroanesthesia Fellows are based at the Moses Campus.

An academic hospital with an Accreta Center of Excellence

Adjacent to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jack D. Weiler Hospital contains a labor and delivery suite, a neonatal ICU and 16 operating rooms. Weiler Hospital is home to a high-risk obstetric division, which is an Accreta Center of Excellence. The Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship Program is based at Weiler Hospital, where fellows are exposed to a wide range of complex obstetric patients.

A community hospital and home to the Montefiore Einstein Center for Joint Replacement Surgery

The Montefiore Einstein Center for Joint Replacement Surgery at Wakefield Hospital has been twice accredited by the Joint Commission for orthopedic excellence and has received advanced certification for knee replacement surgeries. Our Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellows spend roughly half their training at Wakefield Hospital, which houses Montefiore’s busiest Acute Pain Medicine Service. Fellows learn the art of perioperative analgesia and regional anesthesia techniques to optimize preoperative pain management for complex inpatients.

An ambulatory surgery center and specialty care location

Montefiore’s Hutchinson Campus provides our Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellows experience in an exciting, fast-paced outpatient ambulatory regional service environment. Using innovative nerve block techniques, fellows work preoperatively to optimize the flow of outpatient surgery. Hutchinson Campus is also home to the Montefiore Multidisciplinary Pain Program, where our anesthesiologists treat patients with chronic pain using alternative techniques to opioids.

Live and work close to the best of everything

The Bronx, New York City’s northernmost borough, is a culturally rich neighborhood placed at the intersection of Manhattan and its surrounding regions. Our postgraduate trainees typically live in hospital housing or off-site in nearby Riverdale, Lower Westchester or Manhattan, and have access to an unmatched diversity of experiences beyond the program itself.

In the Bronx, with its ample parks and gardens, you’ll learn first-hand why it’s known as “the City’s Greenest Borough.” The neighborhood offers plenty of local food, art, sports and culture, and is just a subway ride away from Manhattan’s famed theaters, museums and attractions.

As a resident of the Tri-State region, you’ll have unmatched access to the city’s cultural offerings, not to mention the bounty of outdoor excursions that are available just beyond. Day-trips and weekend excursions to the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Long Island or New Jersey provide ample opportunities for swimming, hiking, biking, skiing and other seasonal activities.
